Made for Flight strengthens and empowers Transgender youth and the larger LGBTQA community by lifting our voices, sharing our stories, and bringing together allies to celebrate the many forms of diversity and beauty in our lives. Made for Flight creates a space for youth to work together, develop their compassion and skills as leaders, and reach across lines of gender, race, and sexual identity to become active and vocal in efforts to stop violence against all LGBTQ people.
For each workshop we discuss LGBTQ identity and history, study three types of poems specifically for grieving, learn about 3-5 transgender people who were murdered in the last year, and then write poems and build kites in honor of those who were murdered.
If you would like to bring Made for Flight to your college campus, high school GSA, or youth group, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. We offer two distinct interactive workshops:
Made for Flight: Trans-Ally Development. Participants learn the histories of Transgender women and men who have been murdered in the last year, investigate the larger scope of Transgender history and violence, learn about and write their own poems and stories with a safe, engaged group of peers, and decorate kites in remembrance of those murdered. All skill levels.
Made for Flight: Train the Trainers. Participants are trained to facilitate and adapt Made for Flight for your campus or community. Includes kite building, LGBTQ 101, facilitation, and ally development. Intermediate to advanced LGBTQ knowledge required.
